Vegetable Breeding

Our client is one of the world's leading vegetable breeding companies, with over 2,500 employees in more than thirty locations globally.

Challenge

Vegetable breeding is a painstaking and complex process, with new varieties traditionally taking years to develop. The market is under increasing pressure to react quickly to changing consumption patterns and climate-driven changes in agricultural production. To stay competitive, the business needs to leverage Data, Analytics and AI to predict fast-changing trends and meet market demands.

Solution

We developed a Data Savviness training program in collaboration with our client. The program is designed to give employees across all departments the tools and skills they need to think like AI natives and apply data and AI to their daily work. From board members to recent hires, participants from business and technical teams learned how to collaborate and communicate effectively and deliver data-driven, AI-led solutions to real, existing business challenges.

Outcome

More than 300 people participated in the program in year one, resulting in over 20 new business initiatives now in development or successfully implemented, including:

  • Improving breeding efficiency with digital phenotyping.
  • Improving seed quality by lot-based priming.
  • Reducing negative genome regions associated to abiotic disorder.
