Amsterdam, 9 Jul 2026. In this article published in Banken.nl, Rewire CEO Wouter Huygen argues that financial institutions must move beyond point solutions and redesign their core processes around AI. He compares this shift to the historical transition from a single steam engine to individual electric motors per machine, noting that the biggest productivity gains only came once factories rebuilt themselves entirely around the new technology. Huygen points to MYbank, part of Ant Group, as an example: its "3-1-0" model approves loans within one second without human involvement, financing over 50 million SMEs with a default rate of roughly 0.4%, against an industry average of nearly 2%. He stresses that the obstacles to this transition are rarely technical but organisational, requiring board-level vision and a willingness to break existing structures.
